About the project
Our mission
With the increase of CO2 emissions causing climate change, it's imperative to find solutions that can bring green hydrogen to market quickly.
Involving 8 partners from 5 countries, the PH2OTOGEN project is working on creating a scalable device that uses light to produce green hydrogen, along with other valuable products.
The PH2OTOGEN team is using advanced methods to find the best combinations of materials to achieve high efficiency in converting solar energy to hydrogen, aiming for over 5% efficiency over 500 hours in a 500 cm2 prototype.

Our work
Work Package 1
Led by CEA Contributors: TME, CEA, HZB, EPFL, FAU- Designing a set of efficient light-harvesting materials and co-catalysts, known as hydrogen-evolving particles (HEP) with scalable and sustainable synthesis methods.
- Ensuring stable operation by incorporating passivation layers where necessary.

Clean Hydrogen Partnership

The Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (JU) is a unique public private partnership supporting research and innovation (R&I) activities in hydrogen technologies in Europe.
It contributes to the European climate neutrality goal by producing noticeable, quantifiable results towards the development and scaling up of hydrogen applications.
The three members of the JU are the European Commission, Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research.
